"I think I've learned more in the last two years than I have in my whole life," says Lillix's Tasha-Ray Evin. It was all of these life lessons and experiences that inspired the songs on the band's long-awaited sophomore album, Inside The Hollow (in stores now).
Now, Tasha-Ray, along with her bandmates Lacey-Lee Evin, Louise Burns and Alicia Warrington want to share their thoughts with their fans through an exclusive FASHION18 blog.
Check back to fashion18.com every Thursday to see what the girls have to say on everything from how to start your own band to their favourite fashion and beauty tips.

Tangerine Trees

Hey, it’s finally here: our very first blog! How exciting.

Many topics flooded my mind to write about, all of which were decent, but I don't know if you all want to read a blog where I rave about classic English literature... Maybe next time! I came to the conclusion that it should be music related. After all, we are a band, right?

As some of you know, we check our own Myspace and respond to all messages. It takes awhile, but it is very important to us that WE are the ones answering your questions, not someone who was hired to add people and doesn't really care about the band.

Some of the most frequently asked questions are: How do I start my own band? What advice do you have for my band? I am here to give you tips and suggestions, but let me start out by saying there are NO RULES for starting your own band—everyone's path is different.

*Find a group of people who are DEDICATED and share the same vision as you.

*Write your own music (the world does not need another Pink Floyd cover band, believe me).

*Practise practise practise practise practise practise (oh...and practise).

*Play some SHOWS! Play everywhere and anywhere you can. Heck, we even played at a BLOCKBUSTER video store before we were signed... Yeah...

*Listen to constructive criticism. Don't adopt that “we are always right” attitude. Even if you are, in fact, always right, there is always room to improve.

*Make your live show presentable: work on your musicianship and stage presence, tape rehearsals and pinpoint areas needing work.

*When the time comes, book some studio time and get down your best material. If you are interested in pursuing a career in music, this is necessary. You can sell the demos at shows, hand them out to promoters or whoever can be helpful to further your career.

*Myspace is SO important! Sign up, get your music up, gain fans and tour!

*It's MUSIC, so enjoy yourself! Bands are meant to be fun and creative.

OK, that's all I can think of now. Oh, and listen to The Beatles.

Thanks for reading!
xoxo
Louise

Great advice. I've been trying to start my own band for a while now. So cool to see some Canadian girls who really rock and aren't fake and stuff.
