The Boys of the Fall

The Boys of the Fall

Just how cute are the guys from Cute Is What We Aim For?

If you haven’t listened to Cute Is What We Aim For’s latest album, The Same Old Blood Rush In…, we suggest you do because these dudes—who happen to reside just across the border—are definitely on the rise! Prior to their performance at Toronto’s Opera House earlier this summer, FASHION18 was lucky enough to chill with two of the cuties, Fred (bass player) and Tom (drummer). Read on to see what these two funny boys revealed to us about their weird celebrity crushes and all-time favourite fashion labels.

FASHION18: What’s it like going from average teenager to overnight success?
Fred: In school we were never the popular kids, but we were also never the total losers. I just went along the way and I didn’t really care about anything. Now I’m doing this and I’m loving it and having so much fun.
Tom: Yeah, we pretty much went with the flow.

F18: Downsides of being in the spotlight?
F: The downside of being in a band is being away from home for a really long time. I mean, it’s a lot of fun but sometimes it can get stressful.
T: And, you don’t get to see your family and friends for long periods of time either.

F18: Can you describe each other’s personality?
T: Well, I’d say Freddy’s the funny guy.
F: Ha, yeah. Shaant’s definitely the father and the serious guy. Jeff is the go-with-the-flow kind of guy. Tom is… well, I don’t really know what Tom is. What are you Tom?
T: I don’t know (laughs).
F: No, he’s like the little kid.

F18: Your dream collaboration?
T: I would love to collaborate with Blink 182. We grew up listening to them.
F: Yeah, definitely Blink 182. And maybe Michael Jackson or Jay-Z.

F18: Your fashion style?
F: I don’t know. I like to wear vintage stuff every now and then.
T: I don’t really have one. In the winter I dress nicer ’cause it’s cold and I like wearing jeans better than shorts.

F18: Fave fashion labels?
T: Nike and Atticus are some.
F: I’m big on Gap and Hollister.

F18: Do you guys sing in the shower?
F: Whatever is stuck in my head.
T: Well, I hear Fred’s ring-tone every day, which is “Wake Me Up Before You Go.”

F18: Morning rituals?
T: I have to do everything exactly in order.
F: On tour, I’ll wake up and do everything before I get into the shower, like brushing my teeth and stuff.

F18: What movie can you recite word for word?
F: Mall Rats.
T: The movie Signs.

F18: Do you have girlfriends?
F: Yup. All of us do, actually.

F18: Kissing on the first date: Is it a do, or a don’t?
T: Yeah, just the lips.
F: Uh, I’m going to say yes.

F18: If you could be remembered for one song on your album, what would it be?
F: I would say “Sweet Talks 101”just because that’s the song Jeff and I kind of wrote.
T: I would say all of them. I did the best I could for all of them.

F18: What are the weirdest or craziest rumours you’ve heard about yourselves?
F: That we’re gay.
T: Yeah! (laugh).

F18: Your philosophy on life?
T: You can’t give up opportunities when they’re given to you.
F: Just take opportunities.

F18: Fave karaoke song?
F: “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits.
T: Yeah, same song.

F18: Celebrity crush?
F: This is the second time I’ve been asked that. I’d say Kristen Dunst.
T: I don’t really have one. Mel Gibson?

F18: One thing you’d bring if stranded on a desert island?
T: My mother.
F: I’d probably say my girlfriend

F18: What do you look for in a girl?
T: If she’s got nice eyes and if she can make me laugh.
F: I like a sense of humour in a girl.
