She's Doing It

She's Doing It

Rocker Lindsay Robins is making her mark in Canadian music.

If you watched the MuchMusic VJ Search this year, you’re already well aware of up and coming singing sensation Lindsay Robins. Her song “What Would You Do?” served as the official theme song for the show, where Lindsay also made a special appearance. FASHION18’s Mark Mercereau caught up with the Montreal native as she was busy promoting her new album, Dirty Chemistry, to put her to the test.

FASHION18: Describe your personal style.

Lindsay Robins: It’s kind of eclectic. I like a crazy mix of gothic and normal clothes, but well fitting to the body.

F18: Who’s your fashion icon?

L.R.: I love Gwen Stefani’s style—but who doesn’t?  I make a lot of my own clothing for my videos and on stage, as she does. I love to be girlie but still rocker chic.

F18: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

L.R.: Hopefully dominating the world through my music!

F18: Any plans to leave Montreal?

L.R.: I love Montreal, especially after travelling around a lot lately. I really love Montreal and Toronto, so I’m debating…

F18: What’s your ideal romantic date?

L.R.: I’m not really the romantic type. I love going to see local metal bands.

F18: What do you look for in a date?

L.R.: A guy who is tough on the outside, but really sweet around me. When I was young I would always say, “I’ll never go out with a musician,” because I was around them so much, but now I really like musicians. They can rock out but also be sensitive because they’re artsy. Confidence is really sexy.

F18: What are you listening to right now?

L.R.: I absolutely adore the new Billy Talent CD. I’ve also been listening to Sam Roberts and Three Days Grace a lot.

F18: What would be your dream musical collaboration?

L.R.: Alanis Morissette would be nice. Also Pat Benatar; I love her music and her style.

F18: What is your fave track on Dirty Chemistry, and why?

L.R.: Honestly, it varies each day. Some are mellower, some are sad, some are angrier. Today I really like “Possessions” and “Lies.”

F18: What is your fave karaoke song?

L.R.: I love singing “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar and “Dream On” by Aerosmith.

F18: Any advice for young girls?

L.R.: Stay true to yourself. It’s good to be an individual! Take a trend and make it your own. At the end of the day, you have to go home and look in the mirror and it’s only you, so you have to like your reflection inside and out.

F18: Best thing about being a rock star?

L.R.: I get to do what I love every single day. The thing I love about writing music is you can edit yourself—something I don’t always do when I’m speaking.

F18: Worst thing about being a rock star?

L.R.: How your friends change. A lot of people say you change, but it’s really those around you who do.

F18: What would you want with you if stranded on a desert island?

L.R.: A way out!
